NFL:

The Green Bay Packers let the N-F-L trade deadline pass without any external moves, but they did make some roster adjustments aimed at improving a bad kick return game. Through the first eight weeks, the Packers are 30th in kickoff return average and 32nd in punt returns. That led to the release of receiver and returner Darrius Shepherd and tight end Evan Baylis. Cornerback and returner Tremon Smith was promoted from the practice squad Tuesday. The 53rd roster spot is still open – possibly to be filled by tight end Jace Sternberger or safety Ibraheim Campbell. So far this season the Packers have a minus-eight total yards on punt returns.
