High School Sports:

WIFCA Announces All-State Teams:

A number of Fond du Lac area high school football players were named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State teams.

From Fond du Lac High School – Offensive linemen Logan Berandt and Andrew Stone along with running back Eben Sauer were named first-team All-State, while defensive lineman Byron Sabel and linebacker Hunter Hansen were named honorable mention all-state.

From St. Mary’s Springs – offensive lineman Jacob Schrauth, quarterback Mitch Waechter and linebacker Jake Hoch were named first-team All-State. Wide Receiver Cade Christensen was named honorable mention all-state – with Mitch Waechter (defensive back) and Jacob Schrauth (defensive line) – also earning honorable mention all-state honors.

Also earning honorable mention all-state honors were Dylun Logston of Mayville (Defensive End) and linebacker Markus Suttner of Chilton

College Football:

A former Fond du Lac High School Football player earned ‘big’ honors from the Big Ten Conference on Monday. Penn State defensive tackle Robert Windsor was named Defensive Player of the Week in league after his performance in Saturday’s win over Wisconsin. Windsor had a career-high two sacks and tied a career-best with six tackles – five of them solo – in the game. It’s the first career “Player of the Week” honor for Windsor – who was a member of the Class of 2015 at Fondy High.

College Basketball:

Wisconsin senior forward Alex Illikainen is leaving the Badger men’s basketball program. Illikainen averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in 85 games for the Badgers. He will remain enrolled at the university.

Tonight is the start of the Gavitt Tipoff Games between the Big Ten and Big East conferences. The series is in its fourth year – and features eight games between the two conferences. Tonight is the Badgers turn to take part – as they visit Xavier and Georgetown takes on Illinois. Tipoff time for tonight’s Wisconsin game is at 5:30 pm, pregame coverage starts at 4:30 on KFIZ.
