Sports Headlines:

>>Bucks Waiver Of Ilyasova Means Bogdanovic Trade Likely Dead

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  It already looked like the Milwaukee Bucks trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic was headed south.  The team’s decision to waive Ersan Ilyasova Thursday may be the final nail in the coffin.  Cutting his seven-million-dollar contract gives the Bucks some maneuvering room, but not enough to add Bogdanovic as a free agent. The failure of the trade with Sacramento is a bad look for the Bucks front office and could have an impact on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s decision whether to sign a max deal.  ESPN is reporting the NBA is looking into the attempted transaction to see if tampering was involved.

>>Brewers Take Proactive Step With Promotion To General Manager For Arnold

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  The Milwaukee Brewers have taken a proactive step with the promotion of the team’s new general manager, Matt Arnold.  He had been strongly considered for that position with other clubs – most recently the California Angels.  The Brewers announced Thursday their assistant General Manager had been promoted to the top job.  President of baseball operations David Stearns called Arnold’s promotion “extraordinarily deserved.”  Stearns says he and the 41-year-old Arnold had already been splitting a lot of front office duties and says the two will continue to work closely together.

>>Packers DL/LB Rashan Gary Living Up To His Potential

(Green Bay, WI)  —  Edge rusher Rashan Gary was credited with seven pressures in Green Bay’s 24-20 home victory against Jacksonville.  Three came during the Jaguars’ final drive toward what could have been a game-winning touchdown.  An ankle injury had slowed Gary’s performance for a few weeks, but he has finally started to show the talent that led him to be the 12th overall NFL draft pick last year.  Pro Football Focus ranks the six-foot-five, 280-pounder number-27 out of 116 edge rushers in the league and he’s moving up.

>>Shorter Season Means UW-Northwestern Game Is Even More Important

(Madison, WI)  —  Saturday afternoon’s game between Wisconsin and Northwestern is basically a battle for a berth in the Big Ten Championship game.  Both teams will be heavily-favored in the rest of their games in the regular season.  This one looks and feels a lot like the game between the same two teams at Ryan Field two years ago.  The Wildcats won that one 31-17.  Coach Pat Fitzgerald’s team is off to its best start in 24 years and is undefeated through four games. ESPN’s computerized Playoff Predictor gives the Badgers a 17-percent chance of winning the national championship – and a win against Northwestern keeps them on that track.
