Men’s College Basketball:

Marian senior Alex Manhardt was named first-team All-Conference Thursday. Manhardt was the lone senior on this year’s Sabre team, and led the NACC in double-doubles with 11. Manhardt posted season averages of 14.6 points and 10 rebounds per game, while shooting 52 percent from the floor. The senior from West Bend was the eighth Marian men’s basketball player to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his career. Manhardt was named second team all-NACC last season.

Ripon College’s Tyler Semenas, a Laconia High School graduate, was named second team All-Conference by the Midwest Conference Thursday and was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year. Semenas is in his first year with the Red Hawks after transferring from Cardinal Stritch. He ranks sixth in the MWC in scoring with 15.3 points per game and 15th in rebounding (5.3). Semenas has averaged 21 points and six rebounds per contest in the last 10 games for Ripon, shooting 61 percent from the floor in that span and 53 percent from three-point range. The Red Hawks play St. Norbert tonight in the semifinals of the MWC Tournament in Monmouth, Illinois.

Big Ten:

Wisconsin 70, Northwestern 64

–Ethan Happ scored 19 points, Kahlil Iverson added 16 and Andy Van Vliet pitched in 14 points off the bench as the Badgers split the season series with Northwestern. With the win, Wisconsin clinches the number nine seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament. The Badgers improve to 7-10 in the Big Ten and 14-16 overall, they close out the regular season against Michigan State at the Kohl Center Sunday.

The WIAC Men’s Basketball tournament continues tonight with the semifinal round. Top-seed Platteville hosts River Falls with #2 seed Stevens Point hosting Oshkosh. Winners advance to Sunday’s Championship Game.
