Monday’s High School Results:

WIAA Boys Golf State Tournament:

Fond du Lac is in 15th place as a team in Division One after day one of the WIAA State Meet at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. Fond du Lac shot a 334 as a team, with Sam Nielsen tied for 36th place with a 79 on day one. Seb Hoban scored an 83, Jonah Duwell scored an 84, Kyle Kahl had an 88 and Bryce Holz a 103. Day two of the tournament is today.

Doyle Kelly of St. Mary’s Springs is tied for second place in the Division Three field after day one of the state meet. Kelly shot a 76 in the opening round, six shots back of the leader Drake Wilcox of Sheboygan Lutheran

WIAA Baseball Sectionals:

Division One:

Fond du Lac vs. West Bend West (At Oshkosh North) – 10:30 AM on KFIZ and KFIZ.com. The Cardinals are two wins away from their first appearance at State in 19 years. A win in their first game puts them in the Sectional Final at 3:30 this afternoon against either West Bend East or Sheboygan North.

Division Three:

Winnebago Lutheran vs. Sturgeon Bay (At Random Lake) – 12:30 pm first pitch. Winner will play either Ozaukee or Brookfield Academy in the Sectional Final at 6:30 tonight. The Vikings are seeking their first appearance at State since 2011.

–Andrew Bullock had two hits – both of them doubles -as the Dock Spiders won a tight one Monday afternoon at Herr-Baker Field. The two teams meet again tonight in Green Bay, first pitch is 6:35 pm. Listen on KFIZ.com.

Major League Baseball:

The Brewers return home to begin a six-game homestand with the first of three games against the Miami Marlins. Milwaukee has won five of their last seven and hold a one-and-a-half game lead on the Cubs for first place in the National League Central. Miami sits at 21-36 on the year, 11 games out of first in the National League East. Miami has also won five of its last seven games. Chase Anderson gets the start for the Brewers, while the Marlins send Pablo Lopez to the mound. Coverage starts at 6:05 with first pitch at 6;40 on KFIZ.

The Brewers have optioned Keston Hiura back to Triple-A San Antonio as Travis Shaw was recalled off the injured list. Hiura hit .281 with five home runs and nine RBI in 17 games as Shaw rehabbed a right wrist injury. Shaw is hitting .163 with four home runs, coming off the 2018 season where he hit 32 home runs and 23 extra-base hits.

The Brewers took two pitchers on day one of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday night. Milwaukee selected lefty Ethan Small from Mississippi State with the 28th pick of the first round and took another left-hander, Antoine Kelly from Wabash Valley College of Illinois in round two.

NFL:

Jordy Nelson will officially retire as a member of the Green Bay Packers. Nelson told a Topeka, Kansas TV station Monday that he is planning to return to Green Bay and sign a one-day contract and retire as a Packer. The exact day isn’t set yet, but Nelson says he and his family plan to return sometime in August. Nelson announced in March that he would retire from the NFL after 11 seasons, 10 of them with Green Bay.

College Football:

Former Wisconsin defensive back Troy Vincent is among the players on the 2020 College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Vincent was a 1991 First Team All-American and runner up for the Thorpe Award – along with being named the Big Ten’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year. The announcement of the 2020 class will be made in January in the days leading up to the College Football Playoff Championship Game, with induction to come in December of next year.
