Northwoods League Baseball:

The Northwoods League All-Star game is tonight at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo, Michigan and the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders will be represented by two pitchers in this year’s game. Jon Young – from Indiana Wesleyan University and Mike Hope from Shippensburg University are set to represent Fond du Lac in the showcase. Young is 3-2 this year with a 1.79 ERA in eight games – seven starts for the Dock Spiders, while Hope is 3-0 with a 1.39 ERA this year. The Madison Mallards sent the most players to the All-Star game out of the South Division with eight, Mankato had the most out of the North Division teams with five. First pitch is 6:30 central time tonight.

–Jhoulys Chacin struck out nine Nationals batters and drove in a run to help his cause as the Brewers took game one of the series against Washington at Miller Park Monday night. Erik Kratz drove in two runs, while Christian Yelich had a three-run triple in the sixth inning to help the Brewers score six unanswered runs after falling behind on a solo home run from Daniel Murphy in the second inning. Game two of the series is tonight, coverage on KFIZ and the Brewers Radio Network begins at 6:35 pm.

MLB News:

Brewers pitcher Brent Suter has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL). The injury will require Tommy John Surgery which will end his season. Suter is 8-7 with a 4.44 ERA for the Brewers this year. Reliever Jorge Lopez has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace Suter.

College Football:

Two Wisconsin Badgers were given preseason honors by the Big Ten Conference at the start of their media days in Chicago Monday. Senior linebacker TJ Edwards and sophomore running back Jonathan Taylor were part of five selections from the West Division and ten altogether from the conference. Joining Edwards and Taylor as West Division honorees were linebacker Paddy Fisher of Northwestern, wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr. of Nebraska and Iowa tight end Noah Fant.

Players receiving preseason honors from the East include quarterbacks Trace McSorley of Penn State and Brian Lewerke of Michigan State, running back J.K. Dobbins and defensive end Nick Bosa from Ohio State, and defensive lineman Rashan Gary of Michigan.
