Fond du Lac 17, Madison 5

–The Dock Spiders put up a season-high 17 runs and a season-high 18 hits as they upset the Mallards in Madison to win their first ever Northwoods League playoff game. Fondy led 7-0 going into the fourth inning, then after Madison made it an 8-4 game, the Dock Spiders plated seven runs in the sixth inning to blow the game open. Mitch Boe led the way for Fondy, with four hits – including a triple, four runs scored and three RBI. Alex Erro added three hits, including a double and a home run in the win. Fondy travels to Kalamazoo tonight to play for the South Division Championship. First pitch is 6:05 pm. Listen on KFIZ and KFIZ.com.

–Duluth will play at Willmar tonight for the North Division Championship.

The Brewers return to action today as they begin at two-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Milwaukee is 67-54, good for second place in the National League Central – three games behind the Cubs, who are 68-49. The Brewers have lost five of their last seven games and lost consecutive series to the Padres and Braves over the last week. Chicago has won four of their last six, taking back-to-back series against Kansas City and Washington. Jhoulys Chacin gets the start for Milwaukee, while the Cubs will send Jose Quintana to the mound. Coverage begins at 12:45 pm, first pitch at 1:20 on KFIZ.

College Football:

UW-Oshkosh has been picked to repeat as WIAC Champions in the conference’s preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors. The Titans won their 10th conference title and third in the last six years in 2017, while advancing to the DIvision Three National Semifinals. Oshkosh finds itself ranked fourth nationally by D3Football.com in their national preseason rankings. UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville are picked to finish second and third respectively, with La Crosse, Stout, River Falls, Stevens Point and Eau Claire rounding out the poll from fourth to eighth. Oshkosh opens its season September 1st on the road at Carthage College.
