Baseball News:

The Brewers have designated pitcher Jhoulys Chacin for assignment, ending a disappointing season for someone who was expected to be one of their top pitchers in 2019. One season after going 15-8 with a 3.50 ERA, Chacin dropped to 3-10 with a 5.79 ERA this season – winning his opening day start against St. Louis, but only winning twice more since that day – his last victory coming April 30th. Chacin was placed on the injured list a week ago and was expected to return sometime next month. Utility player Corey Spangenberg was recalled from Triple-A San Antonio to take Chacin’s spot on the roster

The Brewers placed reliever Jeremy Jeffress on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a strained left hip. Jeffress had been struggling since the All-Star Break, owning a 7.56 ERA in 16.2 innings. To take his spot on the roster, the Brewers recalled relieve Ray Black from San Antonio.

NFL News:

The Packers have released safety Josh Jones. Jones was a second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and had sat out much of the offseason program after requesting a trade. He started five of the Packers last six games in 2018, finishing sixth in tackles with 60. Jones hadn’t practiced since August 11th because of an illness, and had fallen behind fellow safeties Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage and Raven Greene on the depth chart.

College Football:

The Badgers have named junior Jack Coan as their starting quarterback for Friday’s season opener at South Florida. The New York native was competing against redshirt freshman Chase Wolf and true freshman Graham Mertz for the starting job in camp. Both Wolf and Mertz are listed as backups to Coan. The game Friday is set to kick off at 6 pm central time.
