>>Vikings Praise Packers Defense Before Season Opener Sunday

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The Minnesota Vikings are praising the Packers’ defense heading into the season opener Sunday at U-S Bank Stadium.  Head coach Mike Zimmer says Green Bay’s “Kenny Clark is a great player, the two Smiths are great edge guys, they’re safeties are really good, they’re corners are good, so they’ve got a good defensive team.”  Vikings center Garrett Bradbury says the Packers have a good defensive front and the offensive line needs to pay attention to details with technique and assignments.  Minnesota defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo says Aaron Rodgers has great awareness and pocket presence.  The Packers will try to contain Vikings Pro-Bowl running back Dalvin Cook. New linebacker Christian Kirskey hopes to boost Green Bay’s run defense this season.

>>No Big Rush To Get 4-Time All-Pro OL Bakhtiari Signed

(Green Bay, WI)  —  Four-time All-Pro offensive lineman David Bakhtiari says there’s been no movement on a new contract agreement with the Green Bay Packers.  This is the last year on his current deal.  Bakhtiari is considered to be one of the best left tackles in the NFL, but he says there have been no meaningful discussions with the team. Complicating matters is the three-year, 66-million-dollar deal signed by Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil – a player at the critical position who isn’t considered to be on Bakhtiari’s level.  Tunsil is getting 40 million dollars in guaranteed money.

>>Almost 20-Million Fans Chiefs Top Texans in NFL Season Opener

(New York, NY)  —  The NFL’s season opener is showing big ratings.  Nielson says 19-point-three-million people watched the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans on Thursday evening.  While it’s 13-percent less than 2019’s opener between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, N-B-C reported it to be the “most-watched sporting event since the Super Bowl.”  The NFL canceled their preseason games amid the COVID-19 pandemic, making Thursday night’s match the league’s very first game of the season.

>>Beloit Minor League Baseball Team Getting New Name and Stadium

(Beloit, WI)  —  The Beloit Minor League baseball team will have a new name and stadium next season.  The team has been the Snappers.  Fans submitted names and the five finalists are the Beloit Cheeseballs, The Beloit Moo, the Beloit Polka Pike, the Beloit Sky Carp, and the Beloit Supper Clubbers.  Green Bay’s Northwoods League team caused a little shake up a few years back when they changed their name from the Bullfrogs to the Booyah.  The new name will be determined based on input from fan voting, national brand experts, community leaders and both major league and minor league baseball.  The Snappers name change comes as the team moves from Pohlman Field into their new Riverbend Stadium.
