MARIAN SABRES WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL WIN STREAK NOW SIX

Marian University women’s volleyball (7-3, 1-0 NACC) defeated Monmouth (Ill.) and Illinois College to open the Millikin Invitational.

The Sabres opened the day with a sweep of Monmouth (Ill.) behind scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-21.

Marian then found themselves in their fourth match of the season that needed five sets with the Sabres managing to pull out a victory late.  The Sabres outlasted Illinois College 25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-9. 

MAGIC NUMBER IS NOW DOWN TO 4 FOR THE BREWERS

The Brewers opened up a 10-game home stand in wild fashion, coming from behind to beat the Chicago Cubs 8-5 Friday night in Milwaukee. The Crew had 9 hits, with Kolton Wong going 3-5 including a key two-run single in the 8th. Adrian Houser lasted 4 innings, giving up 5 runs. Milwaukee, now 90-57, will look to inch closer to wrapping up the division when they host Chicago again Saturday night.

PACKERS ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES

The Green Bay Packers have signed LB La’Darius Hamilton off of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad and placed LB Za’Darius Smith on injured reserve. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Friday.

Hamilton, a 6-2, 261-pound, first-year player out of the University of North Texas, originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys in May 2020. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad of the Cowboys before being claimed off of waivers by the Buccaneers in May 2021 and has spent this season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. Hamilton played in 51 games at North Texas (2016-19) and finished his career tied for No. 6 in program history with 17.0 career sacks. He was named first-team All-Conference USA in 2018. Hamilton will wear No. 54 for the Packers.
