Sports Headlines:

>>Packers Place Guard Lane Taylor On Injured Reserve

(Green Bay, WI)  —  The Green Bay Packers have placed guard Lane Taylor on injured reserve.  The transaction was announced Tuesday.  Taylor suffered the season-ending knee injury in the opener at Minnesota.  Although a rule change means Taylor could be brought back after three weeks, the injury is bad enough that is not likely.  The Packers were already thin along the offensive line and guard Lucas Patrick has missed some time, too.  Last year’s starting guard Billy Turner could play against the Saints. At the same time the Packers announced Taylor going on Injured Reserve, the team also said it is releasing linebacker Greg Roberts from the practice squad.

>>Offensive Improvement For Bucks May Have To Come At Guard Spot

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  Playoff opponents have figured out a way to slow down the high-octane Milwaukee Bucks offense centered on Giannis Antetokounmpo.  Moving forward, improvement may have to come from the guard position.  Those getting the most minutes this season – Bledsoe, Hill, Matthews, and DiVincenzo – are all rated above-average to excellent when it comes to defending.  The keep “the wall” defense from being so successful against Antetokounmpo that position is going to have to be a bigger threat.  The change could come through the draft, a trade, or hard work, but getting to the NBA Finals and keeping Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee may depend on it.

>>Badgers Football Opens Came Today

(Madison, WI)  —  Head coach Paul Chryst says his Wisconsin Badgers are well-positioned for the delayed 2020 football season.  The training camp for the team starts today (Wednesday) in Madison.  The Badgers are returning 15 of the 22 players who started the Rose Bowl game against Oregon – six on offense and nine on defense.  They are going to miss standout players like running back Jonathan Taylor, wide receiver Quintez Cephus, and linebackers Zack Braun and Chris Orr.  Having spring ball would have simplified that job a little bit, but probably wouldn’t have made it much easier.  Wisconsin was ranked number 12 in both preseason polls, but it and other Big Ten teams haven’t been under consideration for the first two weeks of the season, so far.  They could appear after this week’s games even though the Badgers don’t play until October 24th.
