Kiel Middle School Receives 2nd Bomb Threat

For the second time in as many days, a bomb threat was sent to Kiel Middle School.

The email threat was sent to the Kiel Police Department around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday (5/24/2022). The threat made mention of the ongoing Title IX investigation that is being conducted by the Kiel School District.

The investigation includes allegations of harassment against three male individuals within the district.

A bomb threat sent Monday forced evacuation of the Kiel Middle School, and classes had been called off on Tuesday.

In a press release posted on Facebook by Kiel Police Chief Dave Funkhouser, it was noted that, due to the cancellation of classes on Tuesday, there were no students or staff in the school, and the school was locked. Funkhouser also said a search of the building resulted in no devices being found.

District officials made the decision to cancel classes on Wednesday, with virtual learning scheduled for Thursday and Friday. It is unknown at this time what the plan will be for next week.

The Kiel Police Department is receiving assistance on the matter from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, the Kiel Fire Department, and the Wisconsin DOJ.
