Laconia Softball Heads Back to State

Laconia players and coaches pose with their sectional championship trophy after defeating Random Lake 9-0 Thursday at Taylor Park.

The Laconia Spartans
Softball team is returning to the State Tournament. Laconia
heads back to Goodman Diamond for the fourth consecutive year after they
blanked Random Lake 9-0 in a WIAA Division 3 Sectional
Championship game Thursday at Taylor Park in Rosendale. The Spartans belted out
11 hits against Random
in the win, led by
Peyton Kastenschmidt, who went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI – including a three run home
run in the third inning. That home run was part of a six run inning that broke
the game open for the Spartans. Hannah Grahl went 3 for 4 in the win, McKayla
Johnson 2 for 4 with a double and Hailey Bartz added two hits of her own.
Meanwhile, senior pitcher Kayla Schwebke pitched another gem, carrying a
perfect game into the sixth inning. She ended up allowing just two hits and striking
out 13 batters in the win.

Laconia advances to the state semifinals and will face
Bloomer in their first game in Madison.
First pitch is scheduled for 10am next Friday, June 9th. Bloomer
defeated Northwestern 11-3 in another Sectional Championship game on Thursday. Elsewhere
in Division three, Weyauwega-Fremont and Marshall
will battle in the other state semifinal. Winners will meet in the D3 title
game which is set for 1pm next Saturday, June 10th
