Laconia Softball Wins Gold!

The Laconia
softball team won the 1^st  WIAA Division 3 State Championship in school
history with a 2-1 win over Poynette on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Diamond
in Madison. The
Spartans scored an unearned run in the 3^rd and then added McKayla
Johnson sacrifice fly that plated Loryn Strook to make it 2-0.  Poynette loaded the bases in the 5^th
& 6^th and also put two on in the 7^th but couldn’t
only manufacture a single run in the 5^th inning.  Sophomore pitcher Kayla Schwebke struck out
12 and gave up just one hit in the title game. 
 Schwebke struck out 16 in the 7-4
semifinal win over Bloomer earlier in the day. 
That semifinal game on Saturday morning was played at Verona because of all the weather
delays.  Laconia had previously won state runner-up
trophies in 2009 and 2014.  Their season
ends at 29-3.
