Laconia Softball Wins Gold!

The Laconia
softball team won the 1st  WIAA Division 3 State Championship in school
history with a 2-1 win over Poynette on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Diamond
in Madison. The
Spartans scored an unearned run in the 3rd and then added McKayla
Johnson sacrifice fly that plated Loryn Strook to make it 2-0.  Poynette loaded the bases in the 5th
& 6th and also put two on in the 7th but couldn’t
only manufacture a single run in the 5th inning.  Sophomore pitcher Kayla Schwebke struck out
12 and gave up just one hit in the title game.
Schwebke struck out 16 in the 7-4
semifinal win over Bloomer earlier in the day.
That semifinal game on Saturday morning was played at Verona because of all the weather
delays.  Laconia had previously won state runner-up
trophies in 2009 and 2014.  Their season
ends at 29-3.
