Lake Winnebago Ice Rescue And OWI Arrest

Some Good Samaritans who were ice fishing on Lake Winnebago near Garden Drive rescued a 24-year-old Fond du Lac man early Sunday morning after his ATV hit an ice shove. He was thrown from the ATV and ended up in open water that was about four feet deep. Some nearby fishermen who saw the man and another ATV hit the shove rescued the man from the water. As they were arriving Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies saw two ATVs leaving the area heading towards Lakeside Park West. Fond du Lac Police helped deputies locate the two ATV operators in Lakeside Park West. The 24-year-old Fond du Lac man who was thrown into the water was uninjured, but was arrested for operating an ATV while intoxicated. The second ATV operator, a 26-year-old Fond du Lac man, was uninjured and was released from the scene. The accident was called in to the Sheriff’s Department at 2:51 a.m.
