Lakeside Park Flyover On Independence Day

There will be a flyover over Fond du
Lac’s Lakeside Park today. A Flight for Life helicopter and a World
War II PT-26 or primary trainer will fly over Lakeside Park. Fond du Lac native
and retired Navy Lieutenant Commander Ron Roen worked with Flight for
Life to arrange the helicopter fly over, the first ever Flight for Life flyover
of Lakeside Park on the 4th of July. It’s being done to pay tribute to the
ultimate sacrifices of law enforcement officers, particularly State Trooper
Trevor Casper and Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig Birkholz who both died in the
line of duty. The PT-26 flyover is being done to pay tribute to former C.D. Smith
CEO Gary Smith, a patriotic aviation enthusiast who contributed to get a B-52
flyover of Fond du Lac on July 4th of 2010. The Flight for Life flyover will
begin at 6:20 p.m. and the PT-26 flyover at approximately 6:50 p.m.
