Lakeside Park Master Plan Fate Now Heads To City Council

The public forums and presentations are over, and now it all comes down to the Council. There’s less than a week before the next Fond du Lac City Council meeting, and both supporters of the Lakeside Park Master Plan, and those that still want to see some changes, are hoping they’ve each done enough to garner votes on the Council.

Lakeside Forward and Envision Greater FDL hosted a Public Forum Wednesday night at the Expo Building at the Fairgrounds. It was a crowd of less than 200, and appeared to be, for the most part, in support of the Master Plan, but not in favor of where the proposed multi-purpose building is going to be placed, on the Lighthouse Peninsula. Tom Schermerhorn, Principal with Excel Engineering, took some time to dispel some of the myths leading into the meeting, telling attendees that none of the businesses that are involved with getting the project off the ground, are making any money off the project. In fact, he said that not only was Excel Engineering not being paid for their time thus far, the company had also donated $50,000 to the pavilion renovation project.

The meeting lasted almost 2 hours, and now all eyes, and ears, will be on City Council, who is set to tackle the tasks of deciding if the Pavilion rehab gets going, and if the Master Plan moves forward to a public referendum.
