Land Purchase For Public Safety Training Center On FDL City Council Agenda

The City of Fond du Lac could move a few steps closer toward a new Public Safety Training Center tonight. The City Council will be asked to approve the purchase of 25 acres of land in the Town of Fond du Lac for $250,000. The Council will also be asked to annex the site into the City. The Fond du Lac Town Board Monday night approved the annexation agreement. The site is west of North Rolling Meadows Drive and north of West Scott Street. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says the site will allow them to do live fire training. It will have a multi-story steel building the City will buy from a company near Madison. The building can be used by both the Police and Fire Departments. For instance the Police can do search and rescues with their K-9s and their SWAT Team can look for barricaded subjects and use their flash-bang devices. It will also have a firing range and a driving course. One site the City looked at for the center last year would have cost $1.5 million for the land alone. The Council meets tonight at 6 p.m. at the City-County Government Center.
