Las Islas Fundraiser Benefits Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts

A Fond du Lac restaurant that held a fundraiser over the weekend to benefit Hurricane Maria relief efforts in Puerto Rico raised nearly $4,000. Las Islas owner Bella Andrews is a native of Puerto Rico. She and former Fond du Lac resident Camille Solberg both have family in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and came up with the idea for the fundraiser. Society Insurance sponsored last Saturday evening’s benefit. Steve Hansen is the Chapter Executive for the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the Red Cross. He says all the money raised from the event will aid their Hurricane Maria relief efforts. Hansen notes a couple of Fond du Lac residents volunteered to help with relief effortsin Puerto Rico. Juliana Kimpton just returned from 3 weeks there and Zach Peltonen just left for Puerto Rico after a previous deployment for Hurricane Irma relief efforts in Florida. Las Islas serves Puerto Rican and Costa Rican cuisine.
