Law On Violent Sex Offender Placement Needs Tweaking

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink says Wisconsin law pertaining to the release of violent sex offenders needs to be tightened up so counties and townships are well informed about their placement. He says state legislators should make that happen. A Washington County sex offender, Terry Olson, is supposed to be placed in a Town of Eldorado residence this week, although a temporary restraining order could halt that. Fink says Fond du Lac County and the town didn’t have a say at hearings that determined that and it isn’t acceptable. He says the other option is to allow counties to provide housing for violent sex offenders for offenders from their own county. He says it could also benefit the state because they wouldn’t have to pay outrageous amounts to house violent sex offenders in a community.
