Lawyer for the late “Bambi” looking for pardon from Evers

The late Laurie “Bambi” Bembenek’s lawyer has re-filed a pardon request for the 1982 murder conviction. Bembenek was a Milwaukee police officer who was convicted of killing the ex-wife of her husband, Milwaukee police detective Fred Schultz. Attorney Mary Woehrer originally filed the pardon request when former Governor Jim Doyle was in office, shortly before Bembenek’s death in 2010. Doyle never acted in the request, and Governor Scott Walker granted no pardons. Woehrer has re-filed and hopes Governor Tony Evers will act.
