Leading On Lead Bill Signed Into Law

Governor Walker signed the Leading on Lead bill into law Wednesday in Milwaukee. Senator Robert Cowles and State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt were co-authors of the bill that provides a funding mechanism for communities to provide financial assistance programs to replace lead service lines providing drinking water to homes. Representative Thiesfeldt says, “I’m extremely grateful to see this bill become law, and I anticipate municipalities to immediately begin using it to help those who need to replace unsafe lead laterals.” It is estimated that 113 of Wisconsin’s 578 drinking water utilities still have utility-owned service lines that contain lead.
