Less Than 5 ICU Beds Available In Northern WI

More than 12-hundred people are hospitalized statewide due to COVID-19, and that’s taking a toll on health care professionals, said Dr. Bill Hartman with UW Health on Sunday.

“It takes an emotional toll, it takes a physical toll, and people are leaving medicine. We’re at a critical point now where we need even more nurses, more doctors to be able to care for all the patients that we’re seeing.”

The Wisconsin Hospital Association reports fewer than five ICU beds available in the four regions that make up northern Wisconsin. Hartman says that’s one of the reasons that getting vaccinated and getting boosted on top of the vaccination is important.
