Active Shooter Safety Program Tuesday

The Fond du Lac Police Department will host the Fond du Lac Safety Council’s program on Active Shooter Safety Tuesday at the police department on North Main Street. Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says the police department has actually given quite a few programs on active shooter safety. He says a standoff incident on South Main Street last month disrupted quite a few residents’ lives. He says it is a good opportunity for those attending to learn what they need to know to set up protocol for such incidents. The program begins with registration at 7 a.m. and will run from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The cost is $20 for Safety Council members, spouses and guests. To register call (920) 921-9500.

Marriage License Reminders

As weddings go it may be one of the least expensive items on the to-do list, but it may be the most important. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg reminds couples they need to have a marriage license, which they can obtain through her office. She says you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. She says she wanted to remind couples who attend bridal shows as they prepare this time of year as they prepare for their big day. She says you will also need proof of residency and they recommend coming in 2 to 3 weeks before you’re getting married to pick up the license. She says there is a 5 day waiting period after you apply for the license and if you’re divorced they need to know how it ended. The marriage license will cost $100. Last year the Fond du Lac County Clerk’s Office processed 540 marriage licenses.

FCEDC Launches New Prosperity Initiative

Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation President Steve Jenkins says one of their goals is to increase private investment in the corporation’s efforts. To that end they’ve begun the “New Prosperity Initiative.”  He says it’s a five-year program looking for a greater level of private investment to match the public investment. He says they are already getting a good response to the program. He says they raised more money in the first two weeks of the program than they did in all of last year. He says there are different levels of sponsorship depending on how much is invested. He says for instance the Chairman’s level is highest level, which includes sponsorship of programs. He says investment levels could also result in access to free research, sponsorship of the annual evening and communications tools.
