The body of a Dodge County
man who was killed in a mountain climbing accident in Argentina is back on its way to the United States.
The bodies of 22-year-old Jarod VonRueden of Clyman and a fellow climber
28-year-old Frank Keenan of Pennsylvania
are on their way back to the states.  It
took rescuers nearly two months to recovers the bodies because they fell on a
rarely used route. The mountain is located in the Andes.
A rescue beacon activated on New Year’s Eve altered authorities to the mishap.
Family members say VonRueden was studying to become an EMT.

Lost Ring Returned In Oshkosh

There’s a happy ending to
the story about a ring that was lost in the parking lot of the Target Store in Oshkosh last Sunday.
Oshkosh Police released photos and information about a man who was seen picking
up the ring in the parking lot and were able to him and his vehicle. They made
contact with the 60-year-old man and he gave the ring to police. They then
returned it to the rightful owner who had told them the ring held sentimental

When those attending today’s
Agricultural Showcase arrive at the Fond
du Lac
Fairgrounds Recreation Building

they will be greeted by over 65 vendor booths. They will be able to sample
cheese, sausages, wine and buy products representing the best of the area’s Ag
industry. Brenda Gudex is the Director of Agricultural Programs for the Fond du Lac Area
Association of Commerce. She says among those attending and giving presentations
will be Alice
in Dairyland Kristin Olson and the Cooking Mom Amy Hanten. Kristin’s program is
at 10 a.m. Amy’s programs are at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The $2 admission fee for
the Ag event supports the Ag Ambassador program for area schools. Hours for the
Ag Showcase are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Solutions Center Family Shelter Housed Two Families
In 2013

A fairly new addition to
the Solutions Center’s
shelter in Fond du Lac
is a family shelter. Interim Executive Director Maggie McCullough says that’s
something they heard criticism about before it was available. McCullough says
they had nothing that allowed them house a married couple together at the time.
She says with the addition of the family shelter they were able to house 11
people or two families in the family shelter in 2013. There four shelters
altogether served 540 people in the Fond
du Lac
area last year.

2013 Second Straight Year
Of Record Sales For State Lottery

State Lottery Director Mike
Edmonds says 2013 was a good year for the state lottery. He says for the second
straight year last year they sold a record number of tickets amounting to $565
million in sales. Of that $162 million was returned to taxpayers in the form of
property tax relief through payments to the schools. He says they expect another
great year this year depending on how many record jackpots they have for games
like Powerball and Mega Millions.

And Jump Rope Competition

Superintendent Jim Sebert says it’s great to see students have the opportunity
to further themselves through field trips and athletic activities. He says STEM Academy
students will take a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago on March 13th. Also March 7th through
the 9th the Cardinal Skippers will compete with students from up to 10
different states in a competition in Mason,
. He says he’s seen the
students who participate in jump rope competition practicing and their
dedicated. The Cardinal Skippers were formerly known as the Wizards.

Guns N Hoses Game Benefits
Free Spirit Riders

The Free Spirit Riders and
YMCA Strong Kids programs will benefit from an annual hockey game between
Oshkosh Police Officers and Firefighters afternoon. The 4:30 p.m. faceoff for
the 7th Annual Guns N Hoses game is at the Oshkosh YMCA on West 20th Avenue. A donation of $5 will
be requested at the door and children 6 an under will be admitted free. Free
Spirit Riders is a therapeutic riding program for children with developmental
and physical disabilities that is located east of Fond du Lac.
