Winnebago County Motorcycle Accident

 

Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say a 21-year-old man was hurt when his motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve on County Highway II in the Town of Wolf River Sunday afternoon. Dylan Rollo entered a ditch and was ejected from his bike. Theda Star helicopter flew him to an area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet. The accident was reported at 1:50 p.m.

 

West Bend Standoff Ends Without Incident

 

West Bend Police were involved in a standoff with a 46-year-old man for nearly three hours Friday night. The man locked himself in an apartment. He claimed to be armed and was making threats. Eventually he emerged from the apartment and was arrested. He was bleeding from the head. He had not been shot, but had injured himself accidentally.

 

NFDL Man Gets Prison Sentence For 7^th OWI

 

A 60-year-old North Fond du Lac man has been sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison and 5 years of extended supervision on his 7th drunken driving conviction. George Salaja pled “no contest” to the OWI charge and was sentenced in Dodge County Court last Friday afternoon. With credit for the 130 days he has already served in jail, Salaja will spend a little over 3 years in prison. The case stemmed from a traffic stop just outside of Lomira last December. Salaja also had his drivers license taken away for three years and will have ignition interlock devices installed on his vehicles for 3 years.

 

$200,000 Lottery Winner At Philly’s On Fourth

 

The Moses magic is back when it comes to big lottery ticket winners. Phil Moses of Philly’s on Fourth tells us they had a $200,000 winner in the Money, Money, Money $20 scratch off game Friday afternoon. The woman who won is a regular customer. For years the Moses owned Ma & Pa’s on Fond du Lac’s famed Miracle Mile. The store sold a Powerball winner in 2006 worth more than $208 million that 100 Sargento Foods employees shared in. It also had a couple of $1 million winners in 2008 and 2010.

 

Public Information Meeting On State Highway 23 Expansion Project Tonight

 

The state’s Department of Transportation will host a meeting on the State Highway 23 Expansion Project in Fond du Lac tonight. The meeting will be held in the Large Group Instruction Room at the UW Fond du Lac from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a brief presentation at 6:15 p.m. the expansion is planned between Fond du Lac and Plymouth. It includes a proposed jug-handle intersection at County Highway K and a diamond interchange at County Highway UU. Regional Loan Fund Will Work Well For FDL County

 

Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel says the creation of the East Central Wisconsin Loan Fund will allow the County and eight other counties participating in it to loan out more money for business projects. He says many counties weren’t loaning out money to companies for smaller project because they wanted to keep the money for bigger projects. He says Fond du Lac County has about $5 million in similar loan programs, but the Regional Fund will have a pool of $22 million to draw from. Businesses will be able to borrow up to $500,000 if their applications are approved. He believes the regional effort will work very well. He believes Fond du Lac County has a good shot at becoming the regional administrator for East Central Wisconsin Loan Fund. He says the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation has the knowledge and the people to do it.

 

FDL Schools Superintendent Says Change In Structure At HS Is Good

 

With an assistant principal at the high school leaving at the end of the school year officials with the Fond du Lac School District will have a chance to rethink the position. John Meznarich will be leaving at the end of the school year to become the high school principal at Cameron High School in northwestern Wisconsin. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says it is an opportunity to rethink the position. In the past each assistant principal was assigned to a certain grade level. He says this past year they decided to switch systems at the high school and each assistant principal was paired with a school counselor and assigned to students based on the first letter of their last name. He says the results should be better for students in terms of counseling and administration.

 

Lomira High School Will Host Dual Credit Day Tomorrow

 

Lomira High School will host state education leaders tomorrow afternoon for the 20th anniversary of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s dual credits program for high school students. It began there in 1986 through a grant program that allowed Moraine Park Technical College to offer 10 associate degree courses taught by certified high school staff. In 1993 the state’s Department of Public Instruction and the Wisconsin Technical College System made the program official. MPTC President Sheila Ruhland says they are excited about Dual Credit Day. Among those who will be on hand will be Wisconsin Technical College System President Myrna Foy, State Schools Superintendent Tony Evers, and Dr. John Shanahan who was MPTC President when the program started. The President of Kondex Corporation, Jim Wessing, will also be there. Kondex recently purchased 10 new welding units for the Tech Ed Lab at Lomira High School.

 

NFDL School Board Approves Land Lease With Village

 

The North Fond du Lac School District and Village Board recently reached an agreement over a small piece of land. School District Superintendent Aaron Sadoff says the Village needed a piece of land to make some improvements to its pool, which would include some sitting areas, a splash pad and some slides. He says the district owns a triangle of land they weren’t using between the Bessie Allen Middle School and Early Learning Center and the pool. He says the Village will enhance and take care of the land. Sadoff says the School Board approved a 50-year lease for $1.

 

State Senator Gudex Schedules Listening Sessions

 

State Senator Rick Gudex will be holding listening sessions throughout the 18th State Senate District in May. On Monday May 6th he will be at the Fond du Lac Public Library from 9 to 10:30 a.m., the Waupun Public Library from 12 to 1:30 p.m., and the Fond du Lac City-County Government Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. On Friday May 10th listening sessions will be held at the North Fond du Lac Public Library from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Oshkosh City Hall from 2 to 3 p.m., and the Omro Public Library from 4 to 5 p.m. The listening sessions are free and open to the public.
