Guard The Sturgeon

The Wisconsin DNR is still taking applications for those interested in being on the “Sturgeon Patrol.”  Each spring, hundreds of volunteers have the opportunity to guard sturgeon at their spawning sites on the Wolf River and protect the fish from poaching.  The DNR says that its impossible to predict the exact dates of the spawning but guards are generally scheduled from April 15th to May 5th. If you could like to volunteer head to the Wisconsin DNR’s website or call 920-303-5444.

Ice Shanties Off The Water

(WI DNR) With a wide range of ice conditions throughout Wisconsin, state recreational safety specialists are asking anglers to consider removing their ice fishing shelters prior to established deadlines. For inland Wisconsin waters, ice fishing shelters must be removed by the first Sunday following March 1 for waters south of Highway 64 and by the first Sunday following March 12 for waters north of Highway 64. For 2013, those dates are: Sunday, March 3 for waters south of Highway 64; and Sunday, March 17 for waters north of Highway 64. After these dates for removing ice fishing shelters from a frozen lake or river, an angler may continue to use a portable shelter but must remove it daily and when it is not occupied or actively being used.

Ag Showcase

The 10th Annual Agricultural Showcase is set for today at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreation Building from 8:30am to 3pm. This year’s theme is baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and cheddar cheese.  The event includes numerous vendors with ties to agriculture to better inform the consumer about the ag industry. As always there will be cheese, sausage, wine and beer tasting.  Fox 11’s Amy Hanten will be there at 10am to do a live cooking demonstration.  The Brewers racing sausages will also make an appearance at noon, along with Fang of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are just a few of the activities going on.  Admission is just $2 and half the admission goes to the Ag Ambassador Program.
