Lomira Falls to Dodgeville in D-3 State Softball Semifinals

WIAA Division 3 State Softball Tournament

Dodgeville 10, Lomira 4

–The Lions hung tough with the top-seeded Dodgers through four and a half-innings, but Dodgeville combined for seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away and win the State Semifinal matchup at UW-Green Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

Both Lomira and Dodgeville would score a run in the first inning, with the Dodgers then putting a single run on the board in the second and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead. The Lions would then tie the game with two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Dodgers would answer right back with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Lomira would get one run back in the top of the sixth, but again Dodgeville would answer – this time with four runs in the bottom of the inning to effectively seal the win.

Rylee Baetz recorded three of the Lions’ nine hits in the loss, including a stand-up double on the first pitch of the game. She also scored two of her team’s four runs on the afternoon. Tenley Gassner would take the loss, giving up 10 runs, six of them earned, striking out seven and walking two in six innings of work.

Dodgeville was led by Grace Graber and Audrey White, who had three hits apiece in the win. Annika Lord got the win in the circle for the Dodgers, allowing four runs – two of them earned – striking out 10, and walking one.
