Lost Hikers Found In Kettle Moraine State Forest

Four hikers who lost their way in the Kettle Moraine Forest were located Sunday afternoon. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department received a distress call at 3:38 PM, from a hiker who was lost in the KettleMoraine StateForest southwest of Mauthe Lake. He stated that he was with three other hikers who had been hiking since around 11 am. The group started hiking the Ice Age trail near highway 28 in Washington County and became lost north of Youth Camp road in Fond du Lac County. The Fond du Lac County Communications Center was able to obtain GPS coordinates to assist in the search. 

Search teams from the Wisconsin DNR, Mauthe Lake Rangers, Kewaskum Fire Department and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office begin to search for the missing hikers. At approximately 5:00 PM, a Wisconsin DNR Warden and Mauthe Lake Ranger located the subjects. The subjects were cold and wet, but uninjured. The Campbellsport Fire Department and Dive Team were called to help transport the hikers, who were brought back to the Mauthe Lake boat landing by the Campbellsport Dive Team. The four hikers, all from Illinois, were evaluated by Kewaskum and Campbellsport Ambulances and released. 

There were no reported injuries to any of the search team members or firefighters.
