Man Accused Of Killing Toddler Due Back In Court Monday 8/24

The toddler was being watched by Thomas Abitz, Junior back in March of 2011. According to a witness that had been babysitting the child earlier in the evening, the child appeared to be normal, active, healthy and playful. A little over 12 hours later, the young girl was found breathing, but not conscious on the floor of an apartment on Security Dr. in Fond du Lac. The young girl passed away 6 years later, and now Abitz is due back in court this coming Monday, August 24, to face charges of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide as well as Felony Bail Jumping.

The lengthy details surrounding the case include information from Dr. Barbara Knox, Medical Director at the UW Child Protection Program, who said it was her professional opinion that the child had suffered abusive head trauma. An autopsy performed by former FDL County Medical Examiner Dr. P. Douglas Kelley determined the cause of death to be “acute pneumonia” due to the injuries sustained in 2011.
