Man Arrested after Armed Standoff at Johnson Street Home

An armed standoff Tuesday morning in Fond du Lac ended with
a 27-year-old man being taken into custody and three children being rescued
from the home. Fond du Lac Police were called to the 100 block of east Johnson
Street around 4:13 in the morning for a report of a man acting strangely by
running around naked in the street. The caller reported the three children were
in the upstairs apartment with the man at the time. Officers arriving on scene
observed the man had armed himself with a knife, and the Police Department SWAT
and Crisis Negotiation teams were activated.

One of the three children was able to escape, but shortly
after 9 am, negotiations began to break down with the suspect and his actions
caused concerns for the immediate safety of the other two children at the home.
SWAT team members used an explosive breach to gain entry into the home and the
remaining children were rescued. The suspect was taken into custody without
further incident. No one was injured.

A portion of Johnson Street between Main Street and Park
Avenue was blocked off along with many cross streets during the incident. Fond
du Lac Police were assisted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin
State Patrol and Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue.

The suspect is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on
charges stemming from the incident. Further details will be released with the
issuance of a criminal complaint.
