Man Taken Into Protective Custody Following Incident In Fond du Lac

One person is undergoing medical evaluation following a Thursday evening incident in the city of Fond du Lac.

Fond du Lac PD received a call Thursday night just before 8:45 p.m. from a male subject who said he wanted officers to shoot him.

The male subject was on a cell phone and calling from a white mini van that belonged to his girlfriend. He was in the vicinity of W. Scott St. when the first contact was made.

Officers made numerous attempts to reconnect with the man, and reports were that the Bearcat armored vehicle was staged near the intersection of Scott and Hickory on the city’s north side.

The male then headed in the direction of the Police Department located on North Main St., where other units were also congregating include the Fond Lac County Sheriff’s Department armored unit and a K9 unit.

A press release issued Friday morning said a crisis negotiator was called to the scene.  The subject at one point drove off and threatened to drive into a train if the police did not shoot him.  The subject then returned to the area of his residence near Scott and Seymour Street and entered his residence.  After additional communication and negotiations with the subject, he was taken into protective custody without further incident at 11:13p.m..  The subject was taken to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation.  Fond du Lac Police were assisted at the scene by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department and Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue.
