Man Dies after Drowning Incident Near FDL Yacht Club

The Fond du Lac Police Department reports that a victim involved in a near-drowning incident has passed away. 47-year old Daniel Thompson was pronounced dead at St. Agnes Hospital on Tuesday afternoon as a result of the incident. Around 2:30pm Sunday afternoon, first responders were called for a possible drowning in the “Big Hole” area of the Fond du Lac Marina near the Fond du Lac Yacht Club – where a man had gone into the water and went under. Witnesses were able to pull him from the water, and a bystander began CPR before he was taken to the hospital. Thompson had apparently been operating a remote controlled boat in the marina when the boat lost power and he went in to retrieve it – but wind kept pushing it away. He gave up and turned back to shore when he went under. Preliminary tests show his cause of death to be consistent with fresh water drowning.
