Man Pulled From FDL River

A quiet Thursday evening turned tragic as Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded to reports of a man in the Fond du Lac River who couldn’t swim. Crews were called just before 5:50 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020, to the area of West Johnson Street and Satterlee. Upon arrival, witnesses stated that the man was attempting to swim across the river and went under. One witness jumped in after him, but was unable to locate him in the swiftly moving water and retreated to shore.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue personnel were on scene quickly and with assistance of nearby Fire Departments, the Fond du Lac County Sheriffs Dive Team and the Fond du Lac Police Department performed a sweep of the river from the last visible location of the man down river. The search continued for an hour, at which point the male was located underwater and brought to shore to a nearby FDLFR paramedic ambulance.

Although the patient did not have a pulse, life-saving efforts were completed on the patient and he was transported to SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital.  Despite the efforts, the 37-year old male, from Fond du Lac, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The name of the victim is not being released, pending full notification of family members, and the incident remains under investigation.
