Man Tied to Romanian Skimming Ring Convicted

A man tied to a Romanian credit card skimming ring has been convicted in federal court. 18-year old Ionel Moresanu was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday of four counts of aggravated identity theft.

Oshkosh Police noticed several men repeatedly using a convenience store ATM – which is when Moresanu tried to run, but was caught. Officers found 80 counterfeit access devices on him and he admitted to stealing card information to make repeated withdrawals. He is set to be sentenced in December.

Other Romanian men face charges in Fond du Lac County. Mihai-Alexandru Preda has pleaded not guilty to forty charges, but no trial date has been set. Catalin-Adrian Capanu is set to enter a plea next week to 41 counts.
