Marian Adds Men’s Volleyball

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Marian University Athletics has announced the addition of men’s volleyball as the department’s 20th intercollegiate program, which will begin competition during the 2015-16 academic year.

“We are very excited to announce the addition of a new sport here at Marian University,” Director of Athletics Jason Bartelt said. “Men’s volleyball is a competitive, up-and-coming sport in, not only the region, but the nation as well. We’re looking forward to this new addition giving more opportunity for students to compete and represent Marian and the NCAA.”

An application for acceptance into the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League was submitted. The league, which was established in 2013, features eight schools from around the region with two more joining in 2015-16.

“Marian University has always maintained that athletic programs bring energy and foster a sense of community on campus,” said Dr. George Koonce, who oversees athletics and serves as vice president for advancement. “In growing our athletic offerings, we continue to enhance the overall Marian experience by giving our students the opportunity to cheer for their teams.”

The process in hiring the first-ever head coach of the program has already begun with aspirations of filling the position very soon.
