Marian University Adds Track & Field

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) — Marian University has announced the addition of intercollegiate men’s and women’s track and field as varsity sponsored programs offered by the university. The teams will compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) as soon as the 2013-14 academic year.

Track and field, which will go hand-in-hand with cross country, is the most recent addition to the Marian University athletics department since women’s hockey was added in 2009. The new addition will add to the existing 15 varsity sports offered at the university, which include: Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Men’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Men’s Ice Hockey, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Tennis, Men’s Track & Field, Softball, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Women’s Ice Hockey, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Tennis, Women’s Track & Field, Women’s Volleyball.

“Track and field has shown to be a growing interest among students on campus, as well as, potential student-athletes that are considering attending Marian University,” Director of Athletics Jason Murphy stated. “Marian has shown tremendous growth in recent years in its facilities and athletics interest. Adding track and field is a way to recognize that and we look forward to more growth and success as a result going forward.”

The national search for Marian’s first track and field leader will begin in earnest. The future head coach will lead both the men’s and women’s programs, which will begin competition in the spring of 2014.
