Marian University Holds Spring Commencement

Marian University held its 75th spring commencement exercises on Saturday, May 16.

At the commencement ceremony held in the Sadoff Gymnasium on Saturday, keynote speaker Mark Lasky, Chief Executive Officer of Sadoff Iron and Metal Company, congratulated graduates on their achievements, and challenged them to continue to learn and enjoy their life journey.

“Today is not the summit of your achievement. It is an earned success, on top of which you will stack other successes. You did this. You can do this again,” said Lasky. “Pay attention to the journey. Life will offer rewards and guideposts and milestones, but true achievement can only be felt from within. When you have worked hard for something, swallowed doubts, fears, and showed courage, the journey is what will bring true feelings of accomplishment, which will become the next stack of blocks on which to build your next success.”

In addition, student speaker Bryce Woldt, a criminal justice and homeland security double major of Seymour, spoke to his fellow graduates about the value of the Marian University experience and using their degrees to achieve their future goals.

“As students of Marian University, we have developed into men and women who have the ability to create a lasting legacy. Now is the time for us to go out into the world and prove our abilities,” said Woldt. “There is a very important concept about our futures that we have to remember. We have all been shaped by our past; however, what we do in the present will soon become that past that shapes us for the future. We have all had different accomplishments and failures leading up to this point, but now we all have something in common. We are all looking forward to continuing on with our lives, but right here right now we are here to celebrate this one commonality we all share.”

The ceremony featured the graduation of 234 undergraduate and 47 graduate recipients. Seventeen students received Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

The weekend’s activities also included a graduation liturgy, a Nursing Pinning Ceremony and a School of Education Commissioning Ceremony.
