Markesan Voters Will Be Asked To Exceed Revenue Caps Again

The Markesan School District will cone again be asking district voters to approve exceeding the state revenue caps.

Voters will make the decision on whether or not to allow the district to exceed caps by nearly $950,000 in each of the next four school years, starting with the upcoming 2022/2023 school year.

A similar request was approved by voters back in 2018, with the district asking voters to approve, at the time, exceeding caps by just over $1 million per year.

If approved, the new referendum would expire at the end of the 2025/2026 school year.

Property owners would see a decrease in the first year of the referendum, to $7.09 per $100,000 of assessed value, then increase slightly in years two and three, before settling back down to $7.35 in the final year.

That would be almost $3 less per $100,000 of assessed value, compared to the last referendum.
