Marsh Fire Burns 20 Acres

A marsh fire Tuesday night remains under investigation this morning.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue crews were called out Tuesday night at 11:13 p.m. for reports of a marsh fire on near Lakeshore Dr., just north of Howard Litscher Drive.

Crews arrived and found the dry marsh grass on fire, which was quickly spreading to the east.  Due to the remote location of the fire, FDLFR’s Brush Response ATV was brought to the scene to aid in extinguishment of the fire.

It took crews about 45 minutes to control the blaze, with the Van Dyne Fire Department assisting on scene with additional water supplies.

“The very dry weather conditions and strong winds we are experiencing create an extreme fire risk for grass and marsh fires”, said Interim Fire Chief Erick Gerritson. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

FDL Police Department assisted with traffic control.
