Marsy’s Law Allows For Better Communication

Voters in Wisconsin this spring approved a change to
the state constitution known as “Marsy’s Law”, which adds 17 specific rights
for crime victims to the constitution. Now that the law has passed, the process
to enact the law has been ongoing for the last few months.
Amy
Bayer (Bear) from Agnesian/SSM Health Domestic Violence Services tells KFIZ
News that one of the key changes has been increased communication, and victims
being made aware of their options for advocacy and support in the process
sooner.
Bayer says some additional changes include the
removal of a victim’s name in a criminal complaint, and more awareness of what
happens during the court process.
