Mentor Program A Chance For Young Hunters

You may have heard that the minimum age requirement for gun deer hunting has been eliminated this year, but there are still some requirements. The young hunter has to be with a licensed mentor and needs to be within arm’s reach. Bill Hankee is the DNR Conservation Warden for western Fond du Lac County. He says the new rule is for younger hunters who don’t have a lot of experience and they are allowed to go out with a licensed adult hunter giving them a chance to get some experience. The mentor can also carry a gun, but can’t group hunt on the younger hunter’s license.
