Mercury Marine Museum Opens Today

Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac continued its year long celebration of its 75th anniversary with the opening of the Mercury Marine Museum Wednesday. Mercury President Mark Schwabero says they have plenty of items from Mercury’s rich history in the museum, but get dozens of suggestions every day for even more that could be contributed. Carl Kiekhaefer founded Mercury in Cedarburg in 1939 and moved it to Fond du Lac seven years later. His son Fred worked for Mercury and his own company for nearly 30 years. He says if his father was still around he would be happy with the museum, but would have some suggestions for it. The museum shares space with the Children’s Museum on West Scott Street. Admission is $1 with proceeds donated to a different charity each month. The following Mercury Marine photos are a peak at some of the things you will see in the museum.
