Mercury Marine Presented With Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award

FOND DU LAC - Mercury Marine, the world leader in marine propulsion and technology, was recently presented with the 2016 Wisconsin Corporate Safety award. The official presentation, held at the Fond du Lac global headquarters, featured Mercury president John Pfeifer and other company executives. The Wisconsin Safety Council, the state’s leading provider of safety training and programming, and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) selected Mercury Marine as one of 15 companies to win this year’s Wisconsin Corporate Safety award.

“We are delighted and honored to earn the Wisconsin Corporate Safety award,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president. “Mercury continues to lead the way in technology aimed at a safe working environment. We view safety as a continuous journey and strive to continue moving in the right direction.

The winners were chosen based on information they provided on their organization’s safety and health leadership, training and implementation programs, and employee participation. Their applications also included information on their safety accomplishments and goals. The applications were judged by an independent panel of 85 safety insurance and human resource professionals.

In 2015, Mercury Marine saw a 25% reduction in total recordable injury rates and a 50% reduction in the lost time injury rate. The company’s ergonomics program implemented robotic automation of propeller grinding and similar automation in its aluminum die cast trim operations. Significant improvements were made in air quality, machine safeguarding and emergency notification systems.

“Our safety values at Mercury drive our success and those values deal with respect, dignity, humility and integrity. Key aspects such as our employee engagement, new employee suggestion system, workplace safety improvements, LSS/5S+1, ergonomics, and training processes led to the recognition,” said Jim Sutton, Mercury Marine director of safety and occupational health. To be recognized for our dedication to safety is a testament to the hard work of every employee at Mercury Marine to ensure that our workplace is safe and we will continue to make safety a priority everyday”
