Mercury Marine Set To Install 12,000 Solar Panels In County

Mercury Marine will be installing 12,000 solar panels on privately owned land near the intersection of State Highway 23 and County UU in Fond du Lac County.

The partnership with Alliant Energy to build the 5 Megawatt solar array is estimated to offset Mercury’s electrical usage by 10%.

This is not the first time Mercury has dabbled in solar energy usage. According to the companies website, Mercury launched it’s first solar project in 2017 with a 2000 panel installation at it’s European headquarters in Belgium.

320 panels were were installed on top of one of their warehouses in Fond du Lac last year, which is said to generate enough power to light the warehouse for the next 30 years. At the time of that installation, Mercury Marine President Chris Drees announced a goal to have 50% of the company’s electricity generated by renewable energy by the year 2030.

This most recent project will begin in the spring of 2023.
