Mobile Health Services Program Launched

Officials in Fond du Lac introduced a mobile health services program last Friday at St. Agnes Hospital. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue, the Fond du Lac County Health Department and Agnesian HealthCare are partnering on the one-year pilot program. Agnesian HealthCare Foundation is financing it with a grant of $17,400. Foundation President Holly Brenner says they are not overlapping, but are working in conjunction and maximizing resources. The program uses off-duty firefighters to do in-home checks on the medical and non-medical needs of people. Dr. Michael DeGere says it begins with identifying people who would be good candidates for the program. It started modestly last Tuesday when a couple of people received in-home visits. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says if it is successful it should reduce hospital stays and visits. He says it should also assist people in managing their health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.
