Moraine Park Will Host Fourth Annual Great Pink Pumpkin Run

Moraine Park Technical College is hosting its fourth annual Great Pink Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 21. Money raised from this event will make it possible for women battling breast cancer to attend the “Infinite Boundaries Wellness Retreat,” organized by the Breast Cancer Recovery, an organization whose mission is to provide an environment for women breast cancer survivors to heal emotionally.

Additional funds are also donated towards scholarships for students dealing with breast cancer.

The 2016 Great Pink Pumpkin 5K raised $5,000 for Breast Cancer Recovery. Over 550 participants and 60 volunteers helped make the event a success. This year, students and staff from Moraine Park are organizing the 5K, along with their sponsors, the Kiwanis Club of Fabulous Fond du Lac.

“As we go into our fourth year of this event, we are confident the community will embrace and support this event to raise awareness and hope for the lives of everyone affected by cancer,” said Brenda Schaefer, Pink Pumpkin Run committee member and co-founder of the event.

The goal of the Great Pink Pumpkin 5K is to connect with the community by providing different student-based, service-learning projects such as blood pressure screenings from the Medical Assistant program, homemade desserts from the Culinary Arts students, and pink hair extensions donated by the Cosmetology program.
