Name Change At UW-O For Theater Building

It’s a name change for a long-time building on the campus of UW-Oshkosh. Chancellor Andrew Leavitt announced Tuesday that the former Fredric March Theater has been changed to the Theater Arts Center. The theater was named after March, following construction back in the early 70’s.

March was a graduate of UW-Madison and earned fame as an Academy Award winning film actor. It was revealed a few years back that March belonged to an inter-fraternity society known as the Ku Klux Klan while he was a student at Madison in the 1920’s. There was no evidence that this sub group was part of the national KKK. But Leavitt said UW-Madison had investigated the incident, and he had received demands from UW-O students and advocates asking that he remove the name from the theater.
