Name Of Lake Deneveu Drowning Victim Released

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of the Lake Deneveu drowning victim. Seventy-year-old Charles “Chuck” Westby of Fond du Lac was swimming off a pontoon boat Saturday night when he failed to resurface. Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says divers were greatly aided in their search Sunday when the DNR brought in ROVE an underwater sonar and camera system. He says as a result they located the body at 3:53 p.m. Sunday afternoon. He says ROVE has remote equipment that allows it to manipulate objects in the water by grasping and holding onto them. He says divers then use a tether to go down into the water to locate what they are looking for. Olig says there was nothing suspicious in Westby’s death and it looks like a drowning, but they won’t know for certain until toxicology and other tests come back to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Westby was an American Family Insurance agent in Fond du Lac.
