“National Child Care Walk Out” Used To Raise Awareness

The average child care worker in Wisconsin is paid about 25-thousand dollars a year. Day care centers here joined others around the country in a “National Child Care Walk Out” on Monday, to raise awareness about the need for better pay and benefits.

Samantha Hernandez is from New Glarus.

“It’s super critical to us to have that child care. We don’t have family in the area so that is our support system.”

Parents also point out the cost of child care is already roughly the same as the cost of college. Day care teachers plan to travel to Washington D-C next week to speak to lawmakers about the issue.
